Are My Symptoms Associated With the Flu?

Falling ill at this time of year is relatively common with all of the different illnesses circulating around. If you come into contact with influenza, you can expect to start feeling sick pretty quickly after the exposure.

If you do come down with the flu, your main focus should always be to prioritize taking care of your body so you can heal quickly. Our AFC Urgent Care Cleveland team has laid out some tips on battling the flu below, so read on.

Does Everyone Get Really Sick With the Flu?

There is no guarantee that your symptoms will be severe if you come down with the flu. You might just feel mildly ill for a few days, or you might wind up with a high fever, sore throat and deep cough.

In any case, when you do start to feel sick, go home and get plenty of rest. Your body is in overdrive working hard to fight off the virus so you need to relax and let your body work. Drink plenty of fluids and take some OTC medication for any pesky symptoms. Now is the time to finally binge that series you have been wanting to for so long!

Flu Symptoms to Expect

  • Fever
  • Runny nose/congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Muscle or body aches

How Can I Quickly Recover From the Flu?

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for viral infections like the flu. They just have to run their course! The good news is that once your body starts to overcome the infection, you will start to feel much better. This usually happens within a week or so.

You don’t necessarily need to visit your medical provider for a flu diagnosis, but if you are in a category of people who are at a higher risk of developing flu complications, it might be a good idea! For those who are 65 or older, a small child or who have a chronic medical condition, the flu could be more dangerous, so it is important to keep an eye on any symptoms and seek medical attention if they become severe.

Flu Recovery Tips

  • Stick to water or electrolyte-replacement drinks.
  • Eat meals that are easy to digest.
  • Take it easy and get quality sleep.
  • Stay home while you are symptomatic.
