How Can I Stay Hydrated?- AFC Urgent Care

We all know that we need to drink water, but it can be hard to get the right amount every day. With so many tasty foods and drinks out there, water can tend to seem like a boring option.

So, what’s the best way to stay hydrated? Read on as AFC Urgent Care Cleveland provides some answers.

How Much Water Should I Be Drinking?

The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is about 15.5 cups of fluids a day for men and about 11.5 cups of fluids a day for women. So, that’s close to a gallon for both men and women.

While a gallon of fluids seems like a lot, your body might not actually need that much. Pay attention to your urine color when going to the bathroom to see if you’re hydrated or not. If your urine is a clear or light yellow color, you’re probably hydrated even if you haven’t drank a gallon of water that day.

Benefits of Water on the Body

  • Helps replenish lost fluids
  • Can prevent headaches
  • Can aid in weight loss
  • Can boost productivity and mood

Do I Just Have to Drink Plain Still Water to Be Hydrated?

Not necessarily! Obviously, normal water will keep you hydrated, but if it’s too boring of a drink for you, the CDC recommends that you try sparkling water!

The only difference in sparkling water is the addition of carbon dioxide, which makes the water fizzy. There are even several brands that naturally essence their sparkling waters to make them a little tastier. You can also fill your plate with fruits and veggies that have a high water content to get in more fluids.

Ways to Make Sure You’re Drinking Water Throughout the Day

  • Set a reminder on your phone to drink water.
  • Use and refill a reusable water bottle.
  • Replace sodas and sugary drinks at meals with water.
  • Set hourly goals for yourself.

It’s important to stay hydrated! If you are experiencing headaches or feeling lethargic, you could be dehydrated. Don’t hesitate to visit AFC Urgent Care Cleveland as we can get you the care you need.
