What Can I Expect During a Sports Physical?- AFC Urgent Care

While you might be ready to cheer on your athlete this sports season, you also need to make sure you have that one important step completed—the sports physical. If your child hasn’t yet had a sports physical, AFC Urgent Care Cleveland is open seven days a week with no appointment necessary!

How Do You Prepare for a Sports Physical?

Before you stop by our urgent care center for a sports physical, you want to make certain you bring the necessary forms, including the school’s sports physical form. To help make the sports physical run smoothly, go ahead and fill out the form with the athlete’s health history, as well as immunization history. Since the physician will be asking your athlete to perform certain physical tasks to check for concussions, slow reflexes and joint problems, comfortable clothing is recommended.

Spring Sports Requiring Sports Physicals

  • Tennis
  • Cross country/ Track and field
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Softball

Can an Annual Exam Replace a Sports Physical?

A sports physical does not replace a wellness exam—and vice versa. While a sports physical focuses on the physical health of a person and his or her ability to participate in sports, the annual wellness exam also checks vitals and other components to ensure everything is in check.

What a Sports Physical Checks For

  • Sports or overuse injuries
  • Concussions
  • Breathing difficulties, including asthma
  • Cardiovascular health
